I’ll be tailoring your lesson program to your interest and situation
Do you want individualized attention on orchestral excerpts and auditioning?
Your lesson plan can be structured around the ORCHESTRA REP 101 course, running concurrently and included in your membership.
Do you want to go off the beaten path?
Play by ear? Improvise? Memorize? Compose? Learn extended techniques? Let’s do it!
Are you an ambitions high schooler needing extra support beyond band?
My team and I can guide you through your college audition process.
Do you want to go back to basics? Overhaul your technique? Improve your breathing? Your sound*?
I love that stuff!!!!
**WOODWIND DOUBLERS WELCOME!
I’m opening up my studio to a small number of private students in a structured course format
Lessons and classes are virtual, but anyone is welcome to schedule their lesson to be in person when GEOGRAPHY allows!
Students of any level are welcome.
Use the semester of studio membership to support your immediate musical goals, as a supplement to your current musical life, whether that’s professionally oriented a side passion, or use it as your current place of study, as in the case of high school flutists or someone in a gap year.
An advantage of enrolling in my semester format is the opportunity to participate in regular studio class meetings
Look forward to a regular performance outlet in a completely supportive and informal environment. There is a great synergy when flutists of different experience levels listen to one another and inspire each other. I hope we’ll have a variety of of levels - from orchestra audition ready post-grads to enthusiastic high schoolers - to seasoned jazz doublers.
You’ll also receive the ORCHESTRA REP 101 Course and everything that goes with it for no extra fee
Lets Go!
Welcome to my private teaching studio
Please schedule an interview if you have questions and want to know more. I’m very interested to know where your particular musical path is headed and how I can help you with my over 40 years of experience playing in orchestra, chamber music, recitals, contemporary music ensembles and teaching at music schools, festivals and masterclasses.
Some things that make teaching quite unique as a classically trained, orchestral musician is my background in jazz and improvisation and my study of other instruments such as the electric bass and touch guitar, and other genres such as prog rock, along with my exploration into composition.
In addition early experiences with tendonitis and overuse syndrome led to my being extra aware of health in playing and the connection between the physical and mental aspects of playing, and I’m always looking for new things that work towards fitness and longevity.
Years of study with one of my biggest mentors, Keith Underwood, have developed my ideas on breathing and sound production, many of which are unconventional.
My conservatory teachers, Robert Willoughby and Thomas Nyfenger taught me things about analyzing and interpreting music that have been invaluable in my career and that demystify “musicality” for any player.
I love explaining HOW to do things - example - how to play better in tune — and I abhor pressure or shaming over mistakes.
I truly believe we ALL have music inside of us that deserves to be expressed.
